SLEEPING IN???? Yes,
please! Breakfast was later this morning so we got to sleep in a little bit,
which was much needed. Then, off we went to get Delegation Day started. Kenny
(our awesome bus driver) took us to the National Mall where everyone scatter to
enjoy their free day. The Smithsonian Museums were a big hit for our group as a
whole, but each group did their own thing. Some went to the actual mall,
others went to the Washington Monument, and some went to the Holocaust Museum
and many other places. It was a blast being able to really explore the city and
learning what city life is like. Speaking of city life, riding the metro and
figuring out the busing system was terrifying. I'm glad we don't have to worry
about any of that nonsense in Kansas.
Once we were back at the
4-H center, it was time for our goodbye with our Program Assistant, Katie. She
was absolutely amazing and helped make this trip one for the books. Katie was
so surprised by our gift for her that we did a group hug and almost fell over.
Even though we had to say goodbye, we saw her at the talent show right
afterwards. Kansas had two phenomenal acts in the show: Jonie Chapman and Doran
Griffin. Doran stole hearts singing "Your Man" by Josh Turner. Jonie
amazed us by clogging and man, her feet moved so fast! It was awesome! Then, we
had the dance and Kansas were the best dancers.......or at least the most
energetic! We all danced and enjoyed our last night at the center. Our
chaperones even danced because we're that awesome! Our time in DC was
definitely a memorable one, but we all are ready to be back in Kansas.
